Meditate On These Things
Nothing much new going on here -- just blessed in so many ways. I frequently use the BibleGateway website for "instant" help in locating specific scriptures. They put a verse-of-the-day on their home page each day. Went there today with the intent of using whatever verse they had up to make a new graphic, and this was the result...good stuff!
In recent days I've had several occasions to recall the old saying:
Small minds discuss people.
Mediocre minds discuss things.
Great minds discuss ideas.
I think this scripture says much the same thing, only in a different way. It also makes me remember the little song we learned as young children, "Oh, be careful what you say, little lips," and all the other verses that go along with it. "Blessed" often also means "happy" in the Bible. I know that no matter how you say it, it really drags you down to spend all of your time talking about other people. Be certain that those same people are talking about you at the same time, and probably in a negative manner. That's the way people are. If they are unhappy, they want everybody else around them to be unhappy, so they use their words and actions to destroy anyone else they see who may be happy. Your happiness is not dependent on other folks -- you make that choice for yourself. However, if you live by the Biblical principles you will find that you are more happy than the other folks around you, no matter what your circumstances are or what others are saying about you.
Think on the things of God and you also don't have time to be thinking about the evildoers around you. Keep Godly company -- if you run with the devil's crowd, you will become like them. "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.'" 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV)
And if you are a perpetual "bad-mouther", continually speaking evil against others, you are quite tiresome to be around. Remember, "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." Proverbs 17:22 (NIV) So, "Be careful what you speak, little lips!"
Finally, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
